EDUCATION - THE PATHWAY TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Sunshine Foundation ("SF"), named locally as Quy Hoc Bong Anh Duong, is a non-governmental, non-religious and non-profit charity organization working for the good of humanity, starting in Vietnam and with the hope of expanding throughout Asia in the years to come.

SF's guiding principle is to offer scholarships to students, from primary to tertiary education, who are high-achievers but have been experiencing financial hardship. It is our aim to assist them in obtaining an education and offering them a way out of poverty to build a sustainable future. We strongly believe that education is the best gift we can offer children of disadvantaged backgrounds to help their integration into the mainstream of society. By giving a child an education, we hope to provide him or her with opportunities for a better life and to build a foundation for future generations to help themselves. It is our vision to contribute towards erasing poverty in Asia through education.

The Sunshine Foundation was founded by the following individuals who share a common vision and commitment:

- Mr Christopher Nghia Do,
- Mrs Phuc Hien Do,
- Mr Van So Le,
- Mr Hien Dat Le Nguyen

SF founders decided to start their mission from Dalat where they originated from, a city in the mountainous region of Viet Nam. SF was granted permission to operate officially by the People's Committee of Dalat City, Lam Dong Province, on October 11th, 2004 under the municipal decision No. 1626/QD-UB. SF self-administers its social and charitable running costs, makes public all its income and expenses and is subject to government inspection, in accordance to the Vietnamese Civil Law.

In the first 24 months of operation, the founders of SF used their own personal funds to provide scholarships to 165 students from 22 schools in Dalat. Following on from that success SF has received donations from several other individuals and companies to see the program expand to 177 students from 32 schools. Now, having successfully implemented its initial objectives in the above pilot location, SF wishes to expand throughout Viet Nam and subsequently Asia to achieve its ultimate vision. To do so, Sunshine Foundation heartily welcomes the financial donations of local as well as overseas organizations and individuals worldwide.

Recipients of an SF scholarship are selected through a stringent and fair selection process involving both school teachers and administrators as well as local governmental education associations. Use of the scholarships funds is monitored closely to ensure it is applied only for education by each recipient. Students from poor socio-economic backgrounds, namely those from ethnic minorities and remote rural areas, have equal access to SF scholarships.

SF scholarships are reviewed annually and students who fail to maintain their academic performance, without justified grounds for consideration, relinquish their award for the benefit of new recipients who merit them. Those who achieve good results will continue to receive scholarships until graduation. Although there is no required repayment of scholarships, recipients are encouraged to make their contribution in whatever way they can to the SF mission upon completion of their education. SF founders understand that they can only lay the foundation for the SF long-term mission in their lifetime and will require the contribution from the next generations to carry it on it goals and visions.

With your precious help, the Sunshine Foundation hopes to offer many more disadvantaged children a pathway to a brighter and sustainable future - Let's share with others the chance of education for themselves and their future generations. Together, let's fight to end poverty for a better future for all.
